Whiteness Havruta: a peer-supported Jewish learning intensive for white Ashkenazi-heritage Jews committed to ending racism.

WE’RE AIMING TO OPEN REGISTRATION AGAIN
IN SPRING 2022!

ORGANIZATIONS CURRENTLY PARTICIPATING IN OUR WINTER/SPRING 2021 COHORT INCLUDE: SVARA, RISE UP, RECONSTRUCTING JUDAISM, AVODAH: THE JEWISH SERVICE CORPS, THE JEWISH STUDIO PROJECT, AND THE JEWISH SOCIAL JUSTICE ROUNDTABLE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH REPAIR THE WORLD!

Whiteness Havruta had a transformative impact on my thinking, learning, and commitment to action around racial justice. I now see how embodying whiteness harms *me.* That realization would not have been possible without April and Catherine’s skillful and compassionate facilitation, and supported by a community of fellow-learners.

The content in this program was powerful, and made me examine how I approach this work in a way I never had before. Getting to process the content each week with my chevrusa partner was so helpful in gaining deeper insights, and, now that the program is over, we plan to continue meeting!

This was a great experience. The readings and videos were very powerful and insightful. Getting to work with one particular person was a great idea. Not only did we build a really great relationship, but we pushed each other to go deeper, to learn and to think more about what we wanted to do. It built into the experience more accountability which is really needed. The weekly discussions were really great and made me want to learn more and think more about how I could take action.

Benefits for Participants

Stronger connections among staff and community members, greater confidence and strengthened anti-racist leadership, save time and stress by reducing mistakes and chronic avoidance

I appreciated having a unique space in which I could explore themes of race, justice, and privilege with compassionate, talented facilitators and a group of eager folks from around the country. Exploring these topics in a group exposed me to perspective and experiences that helped me process my own learning and experiences, and were a great tool in helping me grow.
— Becky, Colorado
Whiteness Havruta illuminated the intersections of white supremacy and white Ashkenazi Jewish trauma in a way that made this work feel deeply personal, because it is. I came away from this experience personally transformed and ready for action.
